Share a person with another household
Share a person read-only into another household, so for example two siblings can both see an elderly parent, while edits stay in the person's home household.
Overview
Each person belongs to one home household, where their records are edited. You can also share them read-only into other households. Members of those households can then view the person's profile and records, but can't change anything. This avoids keeping two copies of the same person.
Before you start
- You must be an Owner of the person's home household.
- You must also have access to the household you want to share into.
- The Shared access card only appears when there is another household you can share into, or when the person is already shared.
Steps
- Open People and click the person's name.
- Find the Shared access card. It names the Home household where edits happen.
- In the drop-down, choose Share with household… and pick a household.
- Click Share (read-only).
- The household is listed with a read-only badge.
To stop sharing, click Remove next to the household in the Shared access card.
Example
Asha Rao owns "Rao Parents", the home household of her mother, Lata. Her brother Karan owns "Karan's household" and has given Asha Member access to it. Asha opens Lata's profile and shares her into "Karan's household". Karan and his wife can now see Lata's medications and appointments, while edits stay with Asha in "Rao Parents".
FAQs
Can people in the shared household edit the person?
No. A shared person is always read-only outside their home household. The profile shows "Shared from … — read-only. Edits happen in the home household."
Does sharing give them access to the rest of my household?
No. Only that one person, and their records, are shared.
Can I share into a household I'm not part of?
No. You can only share into households you already have access to.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the Shared access card
You may not be an Owner of the person's home household, or there's no other household you can share into. Create or join another household first.
"No other households available to share into."
The person is already shared into every other household you can access.
