Choose where your files live

Decide, per household, whether document files are kept encrypted by Personal360 or stay in your own Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or NAS.

Updated 16 Oct 2026

Overview

Personal360 keeps the record — labels, people, expiry dates and search. You decide where the underlying files sit. Each household makes this choice once, on the File Storage page, and it's best made before you attach documents so files land in the right place.

There are three options:

Let Personal360 keep themEncrypted inside Personal360Getting started with nothing to set up
A cloud drive I already useYour Google Drive, OneDrive or DropboxFiles already organised in a drive
My own NAS or serverYour Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, WD My Cloud or WebDAV serverMaximum privacy and control

With a drive or NAS, nothing is copied or moved. Personal360 reads files where they are, with read-only access, and streams them when you open them.

Before you start

  • Only the household Owner can choose or change storage, because it holds credentials for someone's drive or NAS. Other members see a note that this is the Owner's decision.
  • Each household's storage is its own. Settings are never shared with or copied from another household.

Steps

  1. Open File Storage in the sidebar. The page is titled Where your files live and shows a card for each household you own.
  2. If storage isn't chosen yet, the setup wizard is already open. Otherwise press Reconfigure.
  3. The wizard has five steps: Choose, Prepare, Configure, Test and Complete.
  4. In Choose, pick one of the three options. For a drive or NAS, pick the product under Which one? The box below explains where files live, the trade-off and what access Personal360 gets.
  5. Follow the remaining steps for your choice:
  6. Nothing is saved until the connection test passes. When it does, press Save and use followed by the provider name.
Tip:Progress is saved as you go (never your password). If you stop part-way, the card offers Resume setup next time.

Once saved, the card shows Provider, Location, Account and Last tested, with Edit, Reconfigure, Test again and Disconnect buttons.

Example

The Mehta household already keeps scans on a Synology NAS. Rohan, the Owner, opens File Storage, chooses My own NAS or server, then Synology NAS, follows the preparation steps, and saves after the test passes. The card now reads Connected.

FAQs

Can I change my mind later?

Yes. Press Reconfigure at any time. Switching never deletes files already uploaded to Personal360.

What happens if I disconnect a drive?

Saved credentials are deleted and the household goes back to Personal360 storage. Documents linked from that drive keep their links but won't open until you reconnect it.

I don't want to decide yet

Press Decide later. You can still add documents and attach files later.

Troubleshooting

"No household to configure yet"

You either have no household or aren't its Owner. Create a household, or ask the Owner to set up storage.

The card says Connection problem

The last test failed. Press Test again and follow the message next to the failed check. See Storage troubleshooting.
