Document types

The eleven document types Personal360 understands, from passports and Aadhaar to warranties and memberships, and how the type affects labels and AI reading.

Updated 16 Oct 2026

Overview

Each document has a Type. The type groups similar records, sets a sensible default label, and tells the AI what to look for when it reads the file. Types cover both Indian and international documents, so a household with members in more than one country can keep everything in one place.

Before you start

  • You need permission to add or edit documents in your household.
  • If you're unsure of a type, choose OTHER. You can change it later.

Steps

  1. Open IDs & Documents in the sidebar and expand Add document, or press Edit on an existing row.
  2. Open the Type list and choose the closest match from the table below.
  3. If you haven't typed a label yet, the Label follows the type, for example DRIVERS_LICENSE becomes "Drivers License". Type over it to use your own wording.
  4. Press Save (or Save changes when editing).

Example

The Mehta household stores a car insurance policy as INSURANCE with the label "Car insurance", the car's registration as VEHICLE, and a washing machine guarantee as WARRANTY. Each one has an expiry date, so all three appear in renewal alerts.

FAQs

Does the type change how alerts work?

No. Alerts depend only on the Expiry date and Alert lead days, whatever the type. See Expiry dates and renewals.

How does the type help the AI?

When you press Scan for data, the type is passed along so the AI knows what kind of document it is reading — for example, where a passport keeps its number and dates.

Does automatic sync choose a type for me?

Yes. When storage sync files a document from your drive or NAS, it reads the file and picks the type itself, falling back to OTHER. See Link files and auto-sync.

Troubleshooting

The label didn't change when I picked a new type

The label only follows the type until you type in it yourself. Clear the Label field and choose the type again, or type the label you want.
