AI summary of a document
Generate a short AI summary of a document's file — what it is, its key dates and who it concerns — with sensitive numbers masked.
Overview
Long documents such as insurance policies or rental agreements are hard to skim. An AI summary gives you three to five bullet points: what the document is, its key dates (especially any expiry), and its purpose or who it concerns. Sensitive numbers such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport or account numbers are masked to their last four digits in the summary.
Summaries are optional and only made when you ask. Once made, the summary is stored encrypted with the document so you don't have to generate it again.
Before you start
- The document needs an attached or linked file.
- Generating a summary needs permission to edit documents (Owner or Adult, or Limited on their own record). Anyone who can see the person can read a summary that already exists.
- AI must be enabled for your Personal360. If it isn't, you'll see a message saying AI is not configured.
Steps
- Open People in the sidebar and choose the person.
- Scroll to the Documents card and find the document. Documents with a file show extra buttons under their name.
- Press AI summary. It shows Summarizing… while it works.
- The summary opens below the document. Use hide to collapse it and show summary to open it again.
- If you replace the file or want a fresh take, press Refresh AI summary.
Example
Asha Rao links her family health insurance policy, a 30-page PDF, from Google Drive. She presses AI summary and gets:
- Family floater health insurance policy for the Rao household.
- Policy period ends 31 March 2027.
- Policy number
•••• 4321; covers four members.
She now knows the renewal date without opening the PDF.
FAQs
Is the summary on the IDs & Documents page too?
No. The AI summary button is on the person's page, in the Documents card.
Does the summary change my document fields?
No. It only adds a summary. To fill fields such as the expiry date, use Scan for data. See Scan a document with AI.
Is the summary recorded anywhere?
Yes. Generating a summary is recorded in your household's activity log, like other changes. See Activity log.
Troubleshooting
"No readable text found in this document to summarize"
Personal360 couldn't find text in the file — common with blank pages or very faint photos. Replace the file with a clearer scan or a text-based PDF, then try again.
The button isn't there
Check that the document has a file attached or linked, and that your role can edit documents. View-only members can read existing summaries but can't create them.
